    I'm not sure I'm understanding the beginning instructions to "BegDC" Am I chaining 2 and then doing a double, and then a single crochet? I've never used this method before

      Most patterns will use a ch2 or ch3 as the first DC. I just use a SC, Ch1.

      Danielle, thanks so much for the response! So the BegDC is actually just a single crochet and then a chain - there is no double crochet or chain before the single crochet? I'll give it a shot!
      This is a beautiful hat, thanks for sharing the pattern. It is very elegant. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
